On April 27th and 28th, the 20th Annual Conference of Applied Linguistics was held in Tallinn, organised by the Estonian Association of Applied Linguistics, the Institute of the Estonian Language, Tallinn University and the University of Tartu. The Bwrite Estonian team had an opportunity to give a presentation on the impact of generative AI on academic writing in higher education titled “Perspectives from the academic writing community on the impact of Generative AI: a discussion”. After the presentation, we submitted the article which covered this topic for publication, and we are happy that the article has now been published in the form of an opinion story in ERR Novaator.

27. ja 28. aprillil toimus Tallinnas Eesti Rakenduslingvistika Ühingu, Eesti Keele Instituudi, Tallinna Ülikooli ja Tartu Ülikooli koostöös korraldatud 20. rakenduslingvistika kevadkonverents “Keel ja keelekasutajad”. Bwrite’i projekti Eesti tiim esines konverentsil ettekandega “Perspectives from the academic writing community on the impact of Generative AI: a discussion” (‘Akadeemilise väljendusoskuse uurijate vaatenurk tehisintellekti mõjule akadeemiliste tekstide kirjutamisel’). Ettekandes arutlesime selle üle, et kirjutajad ja kirjutamise õpetajad ei peaks laskma robotitel enda eest otsustada, millised on head tekstid. Akadeemilise teksti mudelile tuginedes selgitasime, et objektiivsed hea teksti omadused võivad kultuuriti erineda ning eesti kõrghariduse kontekstis tuleks neid veel uurida. Ettekande põhjal valminud arvamuslugu saab lugeda ERR Novaatorist.
