PhD Candidate

Greta Maslauskienė

Greta Maslauskienė is a junior assistant and a Ph.D. student at Vilnius University (the Institute of English, Romance and Classical Studies at Philology faculty).

Greta’s research interests include EAP, corpus linguistics, contrastive semantics and pragmatics. The scholar is currently actively participating in the scientific research project called “Academic Writing in the Baltic States: Rhetorical Structures through Culture(s) and Languages”(funded by the Baltic Research Programme). Together with the researchers from the Vilnius University (Lithuania), University of Tartu (Estonia), Liepaja University (Latvia) and University of Bergen (Norway), Greta successfully collaborates to map the rhetorical conventions of academic writing in Lithuanian, Estonian and Latvian.

In addition, Greta demonstrates a keen interest in the cross-disciplinary aspects of speaker-addressee interaction in the context of Lithuanian spoken academic discourse. Under the supervision of doc. dr. Jolanta Šinkūnienė (Vilnius University), Greta is currently completing her Ph.D. thesis on the topic “Lithuanian spoken academic discourse: macro and micro analysis” (financed by Structural funds of European Union), in which she adopts a cross-disciplinary perspective to analyse various linguistic devices that help speaker’s project their stance and build rapport with the audience during interactive university lectures. Lithuanian spoken academic discourse has received little scholarly attention so far, thus Greta aims at filling this niche by completing her thesis and continuing research in the field during her continuing scholarly career.

Greta is a regular participant in the Erasmus+ teaching mobility programme, various international training schools (e.g. COST ACTION CA15137) and occupies the position of an active member of European Society for the Study of English (ESSE), European Association for the Teaching of Academic Writing, and Lithuanian Association of University Teachers of English (L.A.U.T.E.).
